Retirement Calculator: How Much Do You Need to Retire Comfortably?

Enter your age, savings and the income you want. The calculator estimates the nest egg you'd need, whether your current plan gets there in three hypothetical scenarios (including a real estate scenario with adjustable cash yield and appreciation), and the monthly contribution that would close any gap.

How the calculator works

  • Your income gap (the income you want minus income from other sources such as Social Security, military retired pay, or VA compensation) is grown by inflation until you retire.
  • The nest egg needed is the amount that can pay that inflation-adjusted gap each year until your plan-to age, while earning the "rate during retirement."
  • Your savings grow monthly at each scenario's rate.
  • The real estate scenario adds cash yield and appreciation into one rate, assuming distributions are reinvested.

What the real estate scenario does and doesn't show

Private real estate can produce distributions and change in value, but it also carries leverage, vacancy, fees, illiquidity and the risk of loss. Rates you enter are not forecasts. Omega's offerings are Rule 506(c) offerings for verified accredited investors only. Learn how investing works or how self-directed IRAs work.

Retirement calculator FAQ

What is a "nest egg"?
The amount of savings you'd need on your retirement date to fund the gap between the income you want and income from other sources.
Should I include military retired pay and VA disability?
Yes. Enter them as "income from other sources" in today's dollars; they reduce the nest egg you need. Check your own benefit statements.
What is the 4% rule?
A rule of thumb that divides your first-year income need by 4%. We show it as a check, not a recommendation.
Does this include taxes or fees?
No. Results are before taxes and fees, which can change outcomes materially.
